I. FROM THE OFFICE OF ALUMNI RELATIONS

GET OUT AND GIVE BACK – ALUMNI SERVICE MONTH

Alumni and friends, you are invited to participate in BC’s annual Alumni Community Service Month, March of 2009. As a service volunteer, you can provide valuable help to the various agencies while building good will by representing the College in various communities. The Office of Alumni Relations will provide a contact list for some local agencies. As we become aware of them, we'll also provide contacts for other agencies that have existing opportunities. If you are aware of any additional service opportunities, please let us know and they will be added to the list. Volunteers will need to contact the agency directly to make arrangements for helping and to inquire about possible opportunities. Contact some of your alumni friends to volunteer as a group and make it a social gathering. Click here for more information on the alumni service month.

BRIDGEWATER STUDENTS PERFORM COMMUNITY SERVICE

Some 544 new students at Bridgewater College fanned out into the Bridgewater-Harrisonburg area on Thursday, Oct. 16, to perform a day of service-learning for 26 public and charitable agencies.  The "Into the Streets" program is part of the college's service-learning requirement and marks the fourth year that Bridgewater College has required new students to perform charitable service as part of the orientation process. All students are required to perform 10 hours of service over the course of a year. Bill Miracle, dean of students, said "Into the Streets" springs from Bridgewater's institutional mission and focuses on making students aware that service to humanity is part of being a citizen. It is, he said, an important part of the educational process. Click here for complete story.
