ALUMNI TO MEET IN CLEVELAND
BC alumni and friends are invited to a luncheon at noon on Sunday, July 1, as part of the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference in Cleveland. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at registration at the conference. President Phillip C. Stone will be the featured speaker for the event, which is scheduled in the Dolder/Hassler Room on the 6th floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cleveland. The conference's Sunday worship service will begin at 10 a.m. in the Cleveland Convention Center, and all are welcome!


TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLPARK! 11TH ANNUAL PICNIC & O's GAME

BC alumni and friends, join us Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Camden Yards in Baltimore for the 11th annual picnic in the park followed by an Orioles game. The picnic is at noon in the Garden Terrace (left field upper deck concourse) followed by the Orioles vs. Red Sox game at 1:35 p.m. Cost is $30 per person (includes picnic and game ticket). Reservation deadline is July 16. Tickets are limited, so register early! Tickets will be mailed out prior to the game. Sorry, no refunds for cancellations unless there is a waiting list. Hotel Accommodations: a block of rooms has been reserved for Sat. and Sun. night at the Sleep Inn & Suites, (6055 Belle Grove Rd., Baltimore, across from the Light Rail-North Linthicum Station) at $89/night plus tax. Make your hotel reservations by July 25 by calling (410) 789-7223. Mention the "Bridgewater College Alumni" group rate. ALUMNI SERVICE PROJECT: 2007 EAGLES WE-HAUL

The BC Class of 2011 will be moving to campus on Friday, Aug. 31, from 8 a.m. until noon. As in years past, the BC Alumni Association will provide a warm welcome and some move-in muscle power as "Eagles We-Haul." Join us in this important service project as we help new students and their parents get all their "stuff" moved into the residence halls. Then, stay for a free lunch compliments of the Office of Alumni Relations. FREE lunch for all volunteers and also FREE "Eagles We-Haul" T-shirts for the first 50 volunteers to register! MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW FOR HOMECOMING 2007!

Be sure to mark your calendars now for Homecoming 2007 on Oct. 12-14. Contact your friends and make your plans now to return to campus to be part of this fun-filled weekend featuring the annual alumni golf tournament, Hall of Fame Banquet, Young Alumni Tailgate, parade, football game vs. Guilford College, and Alumni Party at North River Grill. Class years in reunion are: 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997 & 2002.


UPCOMING ALUMNI TRAVEL OPPORTUNITIES!

Start making plans now to take advantage of the following upcoming alumni travel opportunities. The BC Alumni Association is sponsoring a trip to Italy the summer of 2008 that will be led by Steve Watson, Associate Professor of Philosophy and Religion. Then in the summer of 2009, Dr. Dave McQuilkin, Professor of History & Political Science, will be leading a trip to Australia. In addition to these two trips, next January, Dr. Robbie Miller, College Chaplain, will lead a combined student and alumni tour of Israel/Palestine and Jordan as part of his Religion 315: Lands of the Bible interterm course.


January 2008 - ISRAEL/PALESTINE & JORDAN, January 6-21, 2008

Conducted by the University of the Holy Land in Jerusalem, the tour will visit sites of biblical and religious importance including Mt. Nebo, Jericho, Petra, Qumran, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jerusalem, Capernaum, Masada, and much more. The tour dates are January 6-21, 2008 and the all-inclusive cost, including airfare, will be under $3,000. BC alumni are welcome to participate in the tour as space permits. Summer of 2008 - ITALY, May 17 - May 30, 2008 (tentative)

$3,600 estimated cost. Includes flights from Dulles, all hotels and breakfasts, entrances to most events and museums, and about half of the evening dinners.

III. ATHLETIC NEWS AND UPDATES

EAGLES NAME NEW HEAD TENNIS COACH

Bridgewater College Director of Athletics Curt Kendall has announced the hiring of Conor Smith as the head men's and women's tennis coach. Women's veteran coach Mimi Knight and men's coach Steve Watson both stepped down from their coaching duties at the conclusion of the 2007 season. The women finished the season with a 10-6 record while the men were 8-7 overall. Smith played four years of tennis at the University of Mary Washington and was a two-time All-American. Smith was the Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year in 2000. He was ranked No. 15 in the nation and won the ITA Senior Regional Player of the Year. Mary Washington finished the 2003 season ranked No. 7 in Division III. Smith began his coaching career in September, 2003 as the men's assistant coach at Mary Washington, a position he held until May, 2005. Later in 2005, he accepted a position as women's assistant coach at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. Click here for complete story.


EAGLES FINISH THIRD IN COMMISSIONER'S CUP STANDINGS

06/06/2007 - Bridgewater College placed third in the 2007 Dan Woolridge Overall Sports Champion Cup Standings released Wednesday by the ODAC office. Washington & Lee finished with 144 points winning its fifth straight overall title. Roanoke placed second in the overall standings with 117 points while Bridgewater finished third with 112 points. In the men's sports, Bridgewater finished in second place with 50.5 points. The BC women's sports programs placed third with 61.5 points. Bridgewater won two ODAC championships during the 2006-07 season with the baseball team winning the conference tournament and the riding team placing first at the ODAC Show. Bridgewater also claimed one regular-season crown as the Eagles finished first in softball during the regular season. Click here for complete story.


CLARK ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO FOOTBALL STAFF

06/06/2007 - Bridgewater College head football coach Mike Clark has announced several changes to the Eagles coaching staff for the upcoming 2007 season. The changes involve three additions to the staff along with some shifting of responsibilities among the returning coaches. Coach Clark will focus his attention on the defensive side of the football in 2007. Coach Clark will coach the linebackers and will maintain control of the kicking game In addition to his offensive coordinator duties, Joe Soltis will assume responsibility for coaching the quarterbacks -- a position coached by Clark in previous seasons. Stephon Healey remains the offensive line coach and will also manage the running game for the Eagles. Ryan Lieb joins the BC staff after coaching four years as an assistant at his alma mater, Bethany College in West Virginia. Lieb will coach the Eagles wide receivers. Also joining the staff is veteran area high school coach Bill Shirley. Shirley will coach the running backs. Returning to the BC staff as an assistant is Adam Martiny. Martiny, who will coach the tight ends and assist Healey with the offensive linemen, coached at Bridgewater in 2005 before leaving for Utica College. Click here for complete story.


EAGLES FINISH NO. 1 IN NATION IN RUNS SCORED

06/05/2007- The Bridgewater College softball team finished the 2007 season ranked No. 1 in the nation in Division III scoring with an average of 8.48 runs per game. The Eagles were also ranked in four other offensive categories. BC ranked No 6 in slugging percentage with a .550 percentage, No. 7 in batting average at .357, ninth in homers with 1.04 per game and 11th in doubles with 2.02 per game. Bridgewater also ranked 17th in ERA at 1.66, 20th in double plays with .30 per game and 29th in field with a .961 percentage. Individually, Kaitlyn Bowman ranked No. 15 in RBIs per game, Laura Barry was 37th in doubles per game and Jennifer Hall ranked 20th in runs scored and 46th in homers per game. Lisa Rhodes ranked in 19th in the nation in both wins and ERA. Bridgewater finished the season with a 40-8 record, tying the Eagles for the fifth-best win-loss percentage in the country.



IV. ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

FRANK WISEMAN, '64, NAMED KENTUCKY PROFESSOR OF THE YEAR

Frank Wiseman, '64, was recently honored with the CASE/Carnegie Foundation award as Kentucky Professor of the Year for 2006 for all colleges and universities in the state. Wiseman was a chemistry major and 1964 graduate of BC. He is currently in his 37th year of teaching. He has spent the past 27 years teaching at Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky. where he is professor and chairman of chemistry department. "While at Bridgewater, I enjoyed my time studying under Drs. Heisey, Martin, Jopson, Kline, Geiser and many other of the great ones of the 1960s" says Wiseman.
