  • Eagles defeat rival EMU, 61-56 - 01/06/2009

  • RebeccaBridgewater College overcame a slow start and 31 turnovers Tuesday night to defeat rival Eastern Mennonite, 61-56, in ODAC women’s basketball action.

    The Royals jumped out to a 9-0 lead as the Eagles went scoreless until Jordan Burkholder scored with 15:05 left in the first half.

    The Eagles then started to chip away at the deficit and took their first lead of the game, 19-18, on a Jennifer Saunders layup at the 6:43 mark.

    A jumper by EMU’s Danielle Scott put the Royals back on top, but Burkholder answered with a layup with 4:36 left in the half to give the Eagles the lead for good, 21-20.

    The Eagles stretched the lead to six on a short jumper by Rebecca Henderson before Brieana Burrs scored for EMU to cut the lead to four, 28-24. Burkholder hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds, giving BC a 30-24 lead at the half.

    EMU’s Melissa Lewis hit a 12-footer to open the second half, but BC then reeled off seven straight points to take its biggest lead of the game. Henderson scored from in close and Saunders hit a 12-footer and a 3-pointer for a 37-26 Bridgewater lead.

    Bridgewater still led by 10 points, 47-37, with 7:55 left, but the Royals made a strong run and when Ebony Dennis drained a 3-pointer, EMU trailed by just three, 49-46, with 3:36 to play.

    With 1:17 left, another jumper by Burkholder put the Eagles on top by six, but Dennis hit another long 3-pointer to make it a three-point game, 55-52, with 1:07 left.

    Down the stretch, Burkholder made 6-of-6 from the foul line to ice the Eagles, 61-56 victory.

    Burkholder was the lone BC player in double figures as she scored a game-high 20 points, but she had plenty of help from her teammates. Saunders finished with nine points and five rebounds and Henderson scored eight points, blocked five shots and pulled down a game-high 12 boards. The Bridgewater bench also chipped in with 20 points, led by Bianca Booker with nine.

    The Eagles offset their 31 teammates by forcing 25 EMU turnovers and owning a 41-33 edge in rebounding.

    Dennis paced the Royals with 16 points, Brittany Snyder scored 13 points, followed by Lewis with 11 and Scott with 10.

    The Eagles are now 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the ODAC while EMU drops to 8-2 and 3-2. [Boxscore]
  • Eagles cruise to ODAC win over Randolph College - 01/03/2009

  • Jenny LoganThe Bridgewater College Eagles opened up a 17-point halftime lead, 42-25, over visiting Randolph College on Saturday afternoon and cruised to a 83-60 ODAC victory to improve to 3-5 overall on the season and 1-2 in conference play.

    Four Eagles reached double figures in scoring, led by freshman Jenny Logan with 18 points. Senior Jen Saunders scored 16 points while teammates Jordan Burkholder and Kristin Bosserman added 13 and 10 points respectively.

    The Eagles had one of their better shooting performances of the season, hitting 42% of their shots for the game. BC also turned in a good floor game with 17 assists while committing only 13 turnovers.

    The WildCats were led by Michelle Brockman with 18 points and teammate Katie Rechnitzer added 14 points.

    The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they host Eastern Mennonite in an ODAC matchup at 7:00 p.m. [Boxscore]
  • Eagles fall to nationally-ranked George Fox - 12/20/2008

  • Emileigh LambertBridgewater College lost to No. 23 George Fox, 64-52, Saturday at the Las Vegas Hoopla.

    Bridgewater led 30-28 at the half, but George Fox used a 13-0 run in the second-half to take the victory. With the score tied at 44-44, the Bruins scored 13 straight points to lead 57-44 with 6:05 left in the game.

    Kristen Bosserman led the Eagles with 13 points. Jordan Burkholder and Emileigh Lambert scored 11 points each. Burkholder led the Eagles on the boards with eight rebounds.

    Bridgewater is now 2-5 on the season.
  • Burkholder's double-double leads Eagles - 12/19/2008

  • Jordan BurkholderBridgewater College won its first game at the Las Vegas Hoopla as the Eagles defeated Occidental College, 56-51, Friday afternoon.

    Sophomore guard Jordan Burkholder led the Eagles with a double-double as she finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Kristin Bosserman added 10 points for Bridgewater.

    The Eagles, now 2-4, play nationally-ranked George Fox on Saturday at 3 p.m.
  • Eagles ready for two games in Las Vegas - 12/17/2008

  • lvThe Bridgewater College Eagles women's basketball team will play two games in Las Vegas this week.

    Friday, Dec. 19, Bridgewater will meet Occidental College at 1:00 p.m. (EST). Occidental enters the contest with a record of 4-2 overall.

    On Saturday, Dec. 20, Bridgewater will play George Fox University at 3:00 p.m. (EST). George Fox enters the Vegas event with a 6-0 overall record and the Bruins are ranked No. 23 in the latest d3hoops.com Top 25 poll.
